Kadai chicken

This is a most popular and an easy chicken preparation from North India —

This is best done with chicken on bones — some basic ingredients and you are all set to make a flavourful , aromatic chicken dish–

The final product is wholesome and delicious —

It goes well with roti , paratha or naan

Main Ingredients

  • 750 gms of medium sized cut chicken pieces
  • 4 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • Roast and grind together (coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black peppercorn, dry red chilli, cardamom, cinnamon stick)
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 medium sized sliced onion
  • 1 large tomato puree
  • 5 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste


Clean and wash the chicken pieces and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a kadai– put in the sliced onions, fry till it turns light golden in colour

Add in the ginger garlic paste — fry it for 5 to 6 minutes —

Now add in the chicken pieces -‘ fry on high heat — till it turns slight brown in colour — add in the tomato puree — saute it for another 15 minutes on medium flame —

Lastly add in the salt , red chilli powder , dry Masala — stir well —

Cover the kadai with a lid and let it cook on it’s own juices —

Put off the flame when the chicken is tender.

Your kadai chicken is ready —

Serve it hot with phulkas–
