Pomfret Rawa Fry

Rawa fish fry is very popular in coastal regions of Maharashtra —

This can be made with various types of fish like Surmai (King Fish) , Pomfret , Prawns , Salmon or even basa —

Today I made it with pomfret — you can always try the other varieties —–

This is a type of spicy bomb with a crusty layer on top and while you dig into it —there is a burst of flavours to make you hungry for more —
Main Ingredients:

  • Two medium sized pomfret fish cut into slices
  • 4 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 tsp each of coriander and cumin powder
  • 2 tsp of red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 4 tsp of coriander and Pudina chutney
  • Enough Rawa( semolina) to coat the fish
  • Required quantity of vegetable oil


Clean and wash the fish pieces —

Marinate the pieces with all the above masalas — except Rawa and oil — for 30 minutes

After marination coat the pieces generously with rawa —

Heat enough oil in a non-stick pan — (since the fishes needed to be deep fried )

Deep fry the fish pieces — until it turns golden brown in colour —

Serve it as a starter or as an accompaniment to main course —-
