Thandai — Holi Special

This is a cool refreshing drink made with dry fruits and flavoured with fragrant spices to make our Holi more festive–

It is often mixed with bhang to make an intoxicating drink —

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 litre of milk
  • 1/4 cup of blanched, peeled almonds
  • 1/4 cup of soaked cashew nuts
  • 1/4 cup of fennel seeds
  • 1/4 cup of khus khus
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of melon seeds
  • 1 tsp of elaichi powder
  • 10 peppercorns
  • Few strands of kesar


Soak dry fruits (almonds, cashew, khuse khus, fennel seeds, melon seeds ) At least for 3 to 4 hours

Then make a paste adding black peppercorns to it- keep it aside

Boil milk on a heavy bottomed pan

Add in the kesar strand — — after 5 minutes add in the dry fruit paste — keep simmering for further 15 minutes or so —

Add elaichi powder for more flavour —

Switch off the flame after another 5 minutes

Strain milk in a glass jar and chill it overnight

It is best served chilled in mud glasses –😊
